Wanlass Park
What a Park!
Several weeks ago, the American Fork High School Orchestra was in the area... as part of a regional (interstate) competition. Arrangements had been made-some time prior to their arrival-for the orchestra, while here, to hike in Zion National Park and to have a barbecue in an area park that could accommodate some 100+ students, faculty, and parents.
After a search of the communities east of St. George (where the orchestra would be staying), the grandfather of one of the orchestra members reported back that the "perfect" park was to be found in LaVerkin: the large lawn and pavilion, restroom facilities, etc., were just what was desired. The pavilion was then reserved for the orchestra's use.
The orchestra came, had its barbecue, and left behind expressions of gratitude for the City of LaVerkin and its facilities-indicating that the visitors enjoyed themselves at our park; that it was "ideal" for their needs; that the people here were friendly; and that the helpfulness and attitudes of the personnel at the City offices were impressive.
Sometimes things are so close to our view that we miss or overlook them. Perhaps Wanlass Park is one of those things. Next time you're in the park-playing, visiting, relaxing, or eating-take a look around and imagine what visitors to our area may be seeing as they pass through our beautiful community. In LaVerkin, the people are wonderful, the scenery is breathtaking, and the public facilities-particularly for a community our size-are very nice. We are blessed.
